The Port Elizabeth Oratory of St Bernadette’s Parish invites you to participate in the annual Forty Hours Devotion which takes place at our church in 8th Avenue, Walmer, from Friday 28 October until Sunday 30 October. During this time, the Blessed Sacrament will be continuously and solemnly exposed upon the altar. Scheduled devotions such as the rosary and confession are available to the Faithful throughout the weekend, but all are invited to come along at any time that the church is open to spend time in reverend prayer with the Lord.
What does the Devotion entail?
Exposition is continuous, from Friday evening to Sunday evening. It is only suspended during Masses and from Saturday midnight to Sunday 05:00. The sacrament of confession will be continuously available throughout the Forty Hours, suspended only during Masses and from Friday midnight – 5:30am Saturday morning. All are welcome to attend for as long or as short as desired. If possible, it would be good to spend some time in devotion on each of the three days. The opening Mass on Friday at 5.30pm is a particularly solemn and moving celebration in which all are warmly invited to participate.
