The Port Elizabeth Oratory Parish of St Bernadette presents
MUSICAL ORATORY STATIONS OF THE CROSS
A solemn musical journey
Join us in St Bernadette’s parish church on Friday 27 March at 17:30
This annual service is a reflection on the Gospel accounts of the Passion and Death of Our Lord. Choral pieces from composers such as Bach, Bruckner and de Severac are performed between each station as a musical meditation.
The idea of a Musical Oratory is a continuation of the Renaissance tradition founded by St Philip Neri. These “Oratories” were often a sermon given by a priest outside of the Mass coupled with the music of Roman composers of the day such as Palestrina and Victoria. It is from these “Oratories” that the style of the “Oratorio” was formed.
Please note that there are no Stations of the Cross at 17:00 on Friday 27th. The Musical Oratory starts at 17:30.
