Faith & the Common Good – Local Elections (Final Week)

Local Elections – Preparing to Participate

The local elections will take place on Wednesday, 4 November 2026.

Over the past weeks, we have reflected on registration, civic participation, the common good, and the importance of taking part in public life responsibly and thoughtfully.

As election day approaches, parishioners are encouraged:
• To ensure that they know where they are registered to vote
• To make practical arrangements for election day
• To approach the responsibility of voting prayerfully and with a well-formed conscience

Local government decisions affect the daily life of our communities in many practical ways, including service delivery, infrastructure, public spaces, housing, safety, and care for the vulnerable. For this reason, participation in local elections is one of the ordinary ways in which we contribute to the good of society.

The Church does not direct us how to vote, but she does encourage us to take seriously our responsibilities as citizens. As the Catechism teaches, “as far as possible citizens should take an active part in public life” (CCC 1915).

Let us also remember to pray for our country, for wisdom and integrity among those elected to office, and for the good of all who live in our communities.

This week:

Take part. Vote thoughtfully. Pray for the common good.
