Saint Luigi Scrosoppi, an Oratorian who joined the House in Udine, is well-known for his work with the poor, especially orphaned girls. When no one seemed to worry about them, Father Luigi exercised a particular care for their souls. He founded a Congregation of Sisters, “Of Divine Providence”, to undertake this work. This Congregation still exists today. What characterised Saint Luigi’s spiritual life was a lively devotion to Our Lord as a poor man. He urged his Sisters, as many saints have done, to see Christ in those who suffer. Under Our Lady’s care, honoured by Saint Luigi in her Seven Sorrows, this Son of Saint Philip shared in Our Holy Father’s cheerfulness and humility. His last words included, “I do not want this poor man [himself] even to be remembered”. With love for God, Whose Goodness we remember in every feast, we will celebrate the Memorial of Saint Luigi Scrosoppi at the said Masses on Monday 5th October, his feast day.
