The Port Elizabeth Oratory Parish of St Bernadette presents
MUSICAL ORATORY STATIONS OF THE CROSS
A solemn musical journey
Join us in St Bernadette’s parish church on Friday 11 April at 17:30
This annual service is a reflection on the moments during the Passion and Death of our Lord. Choral pieces from composers such as Byrd, Mozart, and Gardiner are performed between each station as a musical meditation.
The idea of a Musical Oratory is a continuation of the Renaissance tradition founded by St Philip Neri. These “Oratories” were often a sermon given by a priest outside of the Mass coupled with the music of Roman composers of the day such as Palestrina and Victoria. It is from these “Oratories” that the style of the “Oratorio” was formed.
If you would like to join us for this evening of music and prayer, you are most welcome. Entrance is free.
Weekly Stations of the Cross take place on the Fridays of Lent, 17:00
