This Sunday we rejoice to celebrate the solemnity of Our Lady of the Flight into Egypt, the Patronal feast of our diocese. In this feast we commemorate our patroness, the Holy Virgin, in the mystery of her accompanying Our Lord and St Joseph into the country of Egypt to flee from the wrath of Herod (Matthew 2:13-23). This patronage honours Our Lady in her presence on the continent of Africa, a concrete expression of her closeness to us in both our spiritual and our material needs. We pray that Our Blessed Mother will grant us special graces from heaven on this her feast, and particularly for renewal and growth in our parish. We recall also that Mary in this mystery is not only our patroness for a day, but watches lovingly over us for the entire year. We thank our Holy Mother for her constant love and care for us as we celebrate joyfully this our patronal feast in 2026.
